On 5 October 2009 Telenor and Altimo announced their agreement to combine their assets in Kyivstar and VimpelCom into a new Bermuda-registered company VimpelCom Ltd headquartered in the Netherlands.

Present ownership in Kyivstar and VimpelCom

  • Telenor Group holds a 33.6 per cent economic and a 29.9 per cent voting ownership share of OJSC VimpelCom in Russia through its subsidiary Telenor East Invest AS.
  • Alfa Group, controlled by Mikhail Fridman, holds 44 per cent of the voting shares (37 per cent of common shares) in OJSC VimpelCom through its telecom arm Altimo.
  • Telenor owns 56.5 per cent of the shares in Kyivstar, Ukraine, whilst Altimo owns 43.5 per cent through its subsidiaries Storm, Hardlake and Alpren.
